This picture series is one part of an explorative art research project. "The body" - and in particular my own - has always been a loaded concept. Over the years I have learned that looking my own body is not something I do often without being critical. It is a touchy subject within my family as well - not something that is complemented or looked at in a positive light often.
Trying to view this with a new lens, I asked my mother and sister to be part of this project. They allowed me to photograph their bodies and they photographed mine. I see a lot of similarities between our bodies as well as with textures within nature. In order for us to be more comfortable with exposing our bodies to the camera, I loved the idea of immersing ourselves with clay, sand, salt and water.
Clay is an important part of my life as I experiment with ceramics as well - it is a practice where I am very forgiving with myself, where I allow myself to make mistakes. This is something I wanted to transmit to my family.
