This personal project explores my relationship with my father through a series of intimate photographs made during a 14-day road trip through Arizona and Utah (USA). .
As I grew older, our relationship quietly shifted. I became increasingly aware of how differently we express emotion — his calm practicality versus my own sensitivity — and how little space there had been for vulnerability between us. I carried the assumption that he was emotionally closed off, until this journey slowly revealed the opposite.
Through the camera, I noticed how open and present he was: expressing gratitude, ease, and appreciation in ways I hadn’t expected. In contrast, I became aware of my own hesitation to show affection, love, and sadness.
This series reflects on that reversal and highlights that frustrations within myself, using photography as a way to look at him, and in doing so, better understand myself.
